Lam Hua in Australia-September to October 2007

Am back in Sgp after a month's visit to Australia. Yen Chen and I spent most of the time in Adelaide with Han Chung(son), Hannah(d-i-l) and Shanna and Isaiah (grandchildren).

We were in Melbourne from 29th Sep to 1st Oct where we met Sau San and Prof Lee Sing. We were treated to a sumptious lunch by our generous hosts.

On 12th Oct I flew to Canberra and stayed for 2 days with my hometown friend, Kwan Yow Thye. Kwan, Mrs and Ching Yee (son) and family were most hospitable. We visited Sawthirajah and Mrs at their beautiful house on14th Oct.

I stayed a night with my sister, brother-in-law and nephew before the 2-day drive (abt 1000 km) from Canberra to Adelaide on 15th Oct. My sis, b-i-l and I took turns to drive through parts of NSW, Victoria and South Australia; mostly wheat, sheep and vineyard country . We broke journey at the charming little town of Swan Hill. The highlight of the 2nd day was the bridge-crossing of the Murray River. The mighty Murray was somewhat diminished because of this year's prolonged drought.

I managed to catch up with Michael Loh 2 days before my departure. Despite his very busy schedule, he met the family at Mawson Lakes, and gave me a big Aussie dinner at a nearby restaurant. He had to fly off to Melbourne the following day to meet family members. As you are probably aware, Angeline was then in Malaysia attending to the demise of her mother. Our condolences to the family's bereavement.

As with my previous visits to Australia, our Kirkby friends' hospitality was really wonderful. The courtesy and kindness of ordinary Aussies who were complete strangers was also memorable. Thank you all.

Warm regards,
