Dear Kirkby Friends,
The Chairman and members of the
Organising Committee, Kirkby Reunion Melaka 2008, would like to express
their sincere thanks and appreciation for the tremendous support and
encouragement they received from all participants. The overall feedback
was that the reunion was very enjoyable and the activities provided were
well received. The record number of participants at 156 indicated strong
support and enthusiasm by the Kirkby fratenity, especially the last 2
batches (1959-60 & 1960-61). A big contigent of 23 flew over from Australia, 4 from NZ,1 each from Canada and the UK
besides 8 from across the Causeway and the rest from all over East and West Malaysia.
A special vote of thanks goes to all the overwhelmingly generous
donors whose names are listed in the Souvenir Booklet. There were even
some Kirkbyites who donated although they were not able to be present.
The Kirkby Reunion 2008 Fund reached a total of RM14,016! We are also grateful to the sponsors
for our top 4 Lucky Draw Prizes.
The memorable 3 days and 2 nights
stay at Hotel Equatorial, Melaka from 10 to 12 July, 2008 was very
pleasant and trouble-free. What a blessing for a gathering of 156 very
senior citizens! We are most touched that Azian Yusof(59-60), Datin Hajah
Esah(60-61) and Robert Teoh(60-61), and to be sure many others, had made
special effort to attend the function. We also thank all the participants
for showing care and concern for one another, particularly at some of the
more rugged places of interest, eg, St John's Hill.
The wonderful team spirit and strong support from Kirkbyites made
work much lighter for the OC whose members had arrived a day earlier in
Melaka to ensure that everything would be in order. The Kirkby Spirit
prevailed and some participants who arrived earlier volunteered their
services. Ahmad Omar, Ooi Poh Geok, Cheah Phee Chye, Mimi Foo and Kee Lee
Chang helped out at the Registration Counter. Teoh Beng Hong was a great
help in the packing of the goodie-bags.
We cannot thank Danny Tong enough for all his assistance right
through the preparation, and he isn't even a Kirkbyite but the
Brinsfordian-spouse of Brigid Tan! Su Jee Hor also helped us in the hotel
selection, name-tag production and goodie-bag purchase.
All the Area Representatives worked
hard to promote the Reunion in their
respective localities. Low Sau San and Prof Lee Sing ensured that all
relevant information was regularly updated in the Kirkby Website. Jim Lee
provided us with the details of Kirkbyites from his data base. Many
others, some behind the scenes, have in their own special ways quietly
contributed their services and resources to make the Reunion
a memorable one.
To
those who were not present at the Reunion
in Melaka, we would like to inform that it
was decided that the next Reunion will be
held in Penang in 2010. P Ramakrishnan,
Rosalyn
Chew and Leo Turner have graciously agreed
to form the core committee to organise the next
Reunion. A total amount of RM1430 was donated by
all participants present to
kick-start the
Rolling Fund for the new committee.
We would like to apologise
for any shortcomings or oversight that might have occurred during the Reunion.
It
is our hope that all of us will meet again in 2 years' time at the Penang
Reunion.
With warmest regards,
Lye
